Zack Smiter led the gradual takeover of the government by a small class of connected insiders, who used money to control elections, buy influence and systematically weaken financial regulations. He created a shadow government with a budget many times the size of the normal federal outlay, administered dictatorially by his man at the Fed. He made sure the new financial bureaucracy will remain obscure, secretive and hopelessly complex. Ideas that could lead to the creation of a corporate state, legitimized by government and financed by everyone else
