Turn on the television on any night and you'll see these cases played out again and again in one-hour "documentaries", which feed the endless public appetite for demented crime stories.
Often, there's a betrayal, which leads to a despised criminal spending the rest of his or her life in jail. Far more often than not, these shows focus on middle-class or high-income Caucasians who've done something very bad. One of the few exceptions was the O.J. Simpson case.
